Detective Jeff Slade is on a stake out for a man called Silberman, at a train station. His Boss Grisham, a feisty woman, says they are not to move in unless it looks like Silberman is going to run. While waiting for Silberman, Slade notices a woman (Holly Turner - the scientific officer at the police station.) who appears to be some what flustered and keeps looking around to see if anyone is looking at her.

Silberman finally shows up, and unfortunately he sees another member of the stake out team (Nicky) talk into his walkie talkie. Slade then notices how suspicious Silberman looks, and decides that he's going to make a run for it. He goes after Silberman, against Grisham's wishes, and a car chase ensues. Slade is on a motorbike following Silberman. He finds him in a multi-storey car park, but Silberman is waiting for him. Silberman then tries to ram Slade against a wall. Unfortunately he misses and crashes through the wall, landing in a nearby canal.

Needless to say, Grisham isn't pleased! Back at the office Nicky fills in Holly Turner on what happened. Grisham then proceeds to fire Slade, much to Turner's distress, "Silberman was a monster" she tells Slade. Why was Silberman at the station in the first place she asks. Slade's dry reply is that if he could turn back time and ask Silberman he would! Turner then leaves and goes straight home.

Once there she walks into her front room, and sits down at her time machine! She proceeds to travel back 3 hours, taking a timer from the machine which has a 3 hour count down on it. She then travels to the station where Slade and co. are waiting for Silberman. She follows Silberman, and sees him leave a bag at the "left luggage" counter. As she leaves, looking around to see that Silberman isn't following her, Slade notices her.

Holly then rushes home and places the timer back into the machine with only seconds to spare. Back at the station she calls Slade into her office after having retrieved the bag that Silberman left at the station.

Later we see Slade talking to Grisham about how he retrieved the bag, with Turner standing behind him. The bag contains a large knife, which Turner has managed to lift Silberman's prints from, and the blood on the knife is of three different types. Most probably matching those of the people he killed. The find prompt saves Slade his job.

Slade thanks Turner for helping him save his job. But he's puzzled about how she could have got to the station and back again in half an hour. Turner starts to squirm, and then reluctantly in a nearby cafe, she tells Slade of her time machine. Something which Slade doesn't believe at all, and laughs at her.

Holly proceeds to leave, wishing she had never told Slade at all. Before he can object, Nicky enters the restaurant telling Slade of another case Grisham has assigned them to. Guy Lombard has been found dead in a locked room with a gun in his hand, a supposed suicide. However Lombard was in the process of selling his company which would make an extremely rich man. Not the sort of time to commit suicide. While looking around the crime scene, Slade notices a broken street lamp in the garden.

Grisham tells Slade to investigate starting with the caterers, who apparently tried to make a fast get away earlier. Unfortunately Grisham assigned Morris to keep an eye on them, and when Slade arrives, they are gone. Nicky finds a napkin on the floor of the room, it's from the same restaurant that Slade and Turner had lunch in. A car is then heard outside, the caterers (a Mr. and Mrs. Wilson) are leaving! Slade orders Morris after them, and Nicky to put out an alert. As Slade walk back towards Grisham, a man stops him. It's Lombard's son, who for some strange reason calls him Wilson. He claims that Slade was at the house in the morning to do the catering for his father. They were to cook a celebratory meal after the deal had been signed.

Slade then realises that if he was here this morning, he must have time travelled. He then seeks out Turner, and says he now believes her, and wants to give time travel a go! Turner is reluctant, but Slade persuades her, and she shows him the time machine. She then proceeds to explain the rules they must follow. They must be back at the machine the same instant they left or they will be caught in a loop of infinity, reliving the same day again and again. As she is explaining they hear a car crash take place outside, and see Turner's landlord (Danny) shouting at someone for not looking where they are going.

They travel back 10 hours, and as they leave the flat they see Danny cleaning his car. Much to Slade's confusion to start with! They then proceed to the caterers, and pretend to be from the department of health. Slade arrests them, and ties them up, in order to take their van and pretend to be the caterers at the Lombard house.

Once at the house, Guy Lombard asks them to cook lunch to get a taste of what they can do. Slade volunteers Holly to make a cheese soufflé, something which she doesn't know how to do. It's obvious from the way Guy speaks to his wife Barbara, that he isn't a very popular man. As Barbara shows the new Mr. and Mrs. Wilson down to the kitchen, we meet Michael, Lombard's son. Michael shows his obvious distaste at his father for selling the company.

As Slade takes up some coffee to Lombard's office he hears Lombard's partner Mark Redding trying to persuade Guy not to sell. Back down stairs, Turner has put a soufflé in the oven, but she has burnt the toast! And while Turner is left to serve an anorexic soufflé, Slade hunts around in Barbara's bedside table in order to get rid of the gun. He finds it and throws the gun into the bushes in the garden.

As he and Holly are about to leave, Slade notices that the lamp in the garden isn't broken. He can't leave without finding out why. He runs back into the house to search through Lombard's desk wile Turner waits downstairs. Alas he is caught by Lombard, who produces a second gun. Luckily for Slade, the Japanese buyer phones, and Lombard would rather talk to him than shoot Slade.

Slade runs back upstairs to see the door to Lombard's study close. Lombard is then shot, four minutes earlier than when Grisham told him he was shot. Alas the door is locked, so Slade climbs out of a window, and climbs across to the balcony of Lombard's study. When he is just about to climb over the railing someone points a gun out the window and shoots, just missing him. Unfortunately it's enough to make Slade lose his grip, and he falls, landing in a swing hammock and passes out.

Turner then finds him, with a nasty cut on his head. She informs Slade that the local police and Grisham are in the house, which means Slade is on his way. They must leave, now! As they leave Slade sees that the lamp is now broken. When they reach the catering truck, a local policeman stops them from leaving, and they are placed in the bathroom upstairs. Meanwhile Grisham was questioning the family and Redding. All seem to be saying nice things about Lombard for some reason.

While Slade and Turner try and find a way out of the room Morris is assigned to stand guard. Slade knows that when he arrives at the room, that no-one was in it, so he knows that Turner and he escape. Luckily Slade remembers Morris's call of nature, and while Morris isn't outside the door, they escape.

Slade then parks the van in an alleyway near Turner's flat. If he had parked outside Turner's flat it would have been too obvious. Besides which the police find them anyway, and it becomes a race to get back to the flat in time without the police catching them! They split up and while separated Slade pops into a bookies to place a bet on a horse!

As they meet up outside the flat and run into the building, Danny has to swerve to miss them as he's driving along. So it was Turner and Slade who caused the crash! They get back to the machine with only a few seconds to spare. Turner then points out that Slade's head injury is gone. This is due to parallel dimensions:-

"You weren't injured when you left, so, you're not injured now."

Back at the station, Slade shows Grisham a charge sheet. He has arrested Mark Redding, much to Grisham's surprise. As Redding is brought in he passes Grisham's office and sees Slade. He calls him Wilson, and is amazed to find out that he's a detective, how could he possibly have known?

Mark Redding shot Lombard just before two o'clock, using a silenced gun. A few minutes later, he then fired a second shot to bring Barbara and Michael into the room, while he hid in an alcove behind the door. Stepping out a few moments after they enter to make it appear like he has just arrived. Grisham is impressed, but can't understand how Slade worked it all out. From a broken lamp he tells her.

Later we see Slade and Turner in a restaurant celebrating. Turner wonders how Slade could afford it. He then tells her of the bet he placed, and Turner explains that he couldn't have done! (see transcript part three for explanation!).
